VRM: Kelly, With a victory at Mt. Morris, in general how do you feel the season has gone for you?
Kelly Smith: I think the win was good but I haven't been getting good starts all year which means my results don't show as I think I can. I need better starts for everyone can realize my speed while I'm up front..
VRM: VRM noticed you look fantastic in the corners as far as your speed is concerned and it appears you could run with the leaders.
Kelly Smith: Yes, definitely, I got better starts last weekend and notice I did get a seventh. Last year at Millville I did well and finished sixth overall.
VRM: What's your plan after the MX season is over?
Kelly Smith: Last two years KTM has had me do the four stroke national series. I won that series last year and I'm very interested in defending my title.
VRM: Will you be riding the big 520?
Kelly Smith: Yes, especially if I sign with KTM next year I'm sure they'll have me run the series. There has already been talks about it, so that's usually the first thing I do in the off season to keep busy.
VRM: How do you think the USA team will do in the Motocross Des Nations?
Kelly Smith: Gees, I don't have any idea, who have they finally pick to ride?
VRM: Ryan Hughes, Travis Pastrana & Ricky Carmichael.
Kelly Smith: I think Ricky will do really well. Ryan has just as good of a chance as anyone since he's ridden across seas. I don't know about Pastrana going over there for the first time and being on a totally different style of track, but overall I think we will do well.
VRM: In the off season do you have a personal trainer you work wit?.
Kelly Smith: I mostly just ride. I feel riding is the best training you can do. I will mountain bike, run on my own and I might do a few Supercross races in Australia.
VRM: Do they pay good money.
Kelly Smith: Yes, the promoters set you up. They pay show up money and also take care of your plane tickets.
VRM: Who's you're favorite rider of all time.
Kelly Smith: I came into the season kind of late. I was fifteen when I started racing. I kind of took to Jean Michelle Bayle because he's such a natural rider. He definitely stood out when I was young.
