VRM:

How’s the 2001 125cc Outdoor Nationals series shaping up for you?

Kelly Smith:

Started off pretty good, other than my bike braking on me in the first round things are coming together.  I’ve gotten myself back into the top ten in the 125cc Outdoor National series points race and hope to continue to move up.  I had a groin injury, which happened at Southwick so the last two weekends I have been kind of milking the groin.  I’ve been gaining precise points to ensure I’m in the top ten in points going into Red Bud.  I’m 100 percent now and ready to go on my hometown track.

VRM:

Do you have any solid plans for 2002 yet or do you plan on staying with KTM?

Kelly Smith:

I’ve talked to KTM about staying with them next year but I’ve talked to a few other people as well.   Right now I don’t know but in a month or two I should know for sure.

VRM:

VRM will be waiting to hear you latest decision.

Kelly Smith:

I will definitely contact VRM once a final decision is made.

VRM:

What has been your best finish in a moto this year?

Kelly Smith:

I had a fourth place finish at Hangtown and Highpoint.

VRM:

I see some gold plated WP forks on that KTM 125cc Rocket can you tell me about them.

Kelly Smith:

They’re a twin chamber fork, which is a little different from what we have been using.  They add a lot of plush ness for the outdoors.  We did some last minute testing prior to the last Supercross race and really got them dialed in!

VRM:

Great to talk to you again?

Kelly Smith:

No problem!
