Kelly Smith Interview |

Recapped By: Bubba Bunders |
VRM: Kelly how did you prepare for the last round
of the Motocross Nationals at Steel City?
Kelly: After
the last race at Binghamton, the whole KTM Team went back to Broc Sellards
house to train
for the Steel City National. They
brought the whole Semi and race team with them. We practiced all week long on a few local tracks near Broc’s
house. We all are working hard hoping
Grant Langston can pull out the National Championship at Steel City.
VRM Note: Grant
ended up losing the 125 National Championship when his rear wheel broke with
two laps to go in the final Moto. Mike
Brown ended up winning the title for Team Kawasaki.
VRM: Kelly
have you decided what Team you will ride for in 2002?
Kelly: I
haven’t decided what Team I will be riding for next year, but I will probably
be riding a Yamaha 4 stroke for someone.
I am talking to three different teams right now and they all will be
racing Yamaha YZ250F’s.
VRM: What do
you plan to do in the off-season to prepare for 2002?
Kelly: Next
week I will start riding the 4 Stoke National Series on the East Coast. I will be riding a 520SX for KTM during Fall
Classic 4 Stoke Class. I will be
defending my US Open 4 Stoke Championship I won in 2000.
VRM: If you
were a gambling man who would you put your money on to win the 250 Class at the
US Open?
Kelly: If Ricky
races, I would definitely say he has the best odds of winning it.
VRM Note: Kelly
will be riding at Redbud on September 23rd in the Fall Classic, so
be sure to stop by to say Hi and grab an autograph. Kelly would like to thank all his fans and VRM for supporting him
during the 2001 Season.
